Dear Korean War Veterans

Dear Korean War Veterans,????????

My name is Yujin Ko and I am a junior in high school from Busan, Korea.

I am writing this email to you after reading articles in Korean newspapers regarding many veterans’ recent visits to Korea commemorating the 60th year anniversary of the Korean War.??

About a month ago, my school launched a campaign to designate the United Memorial Cemetery in Busan as a special United Peace District and I am in charge of that process. I am 17 years old and, honestly, my knowledge of the Korean War is quite superficial, gathered mostly from school textbooks or from stories related to me from my grandparents’ experiences. However, when I started this campaign, I began some in depth research and I was truly overwhelmed to discover how foreign soldiers like you fought so selflessly and bravely in our country to preserve the freedom that we have now. Thank you, thank you so much!

After the Korean War, the Korean people worked very hard to keep our hard-earned freedom and the current United Nation Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is, in my opinion, an exemplar of the status of Korea as one of the leading peace defending nations in the world. It is my dream to create a successful campaign designating the United Peace District as a legacy to the memory of the noble sacrifice of all the soldiers during the Korean War for future generations.??

I wish that you all have many years of good health.

Sincerely,

Yujin Ko
